Big Mosquitoes

Facebook can be dangerous.  A friend of mine from Maths class in high school posted a picture of her daughter wearing a gorgeous Hootabelle beanie, that she bought from a facebook home business called Mummy Love Corner.  Well .... My little Hoot fan just had to have one of those too, Hoot of course though, not Hootabelle.  He loves it and has worn it to day care and to his ENT review appointment too.
One of the girls in one of my year 2 classes has a 1 year old brother who also loves Hoot too, so I bought one for him as well.  Nathan looked a little bewildered when I put it on him, but his Mum and big sister love it!
Now this isn't a particularly good photo ... I have taken a few but can't seem to get the full effect in a photo.  Henry came home from day care on Thursday with a small mosquito bite on his right cheek.  On Friday, when he woke up from his afternoon nap, his whole right cheek was swollen (inside and out) and red and felt quite hot and hard.  Day care rang me in a bit of a panic.  They had rung the 1800 health hotline too (well done day care staff!) and were told it sounds like an allergic reaction to something.  He wasn't in pain or scratching it or bothered by it so they were happy for him to stay at day care until the usual pick up time.  I raced home from school and took him straight to the GP.  It is just a mosquito bite, but obviously Henry reacts badly to mosquitoes!  His cheek is so fat it is stretching his mouth out a bit, he is slurring some of his words and even his eye has been compressed shut a bit.  Must have been a very impressive mosquito!!
We have make your own pizza night fairly regularly.  This night was nothing special except that Henry declared he needed to make his own pizzas too.  It was so much fun having him up there, talking about all the food and asking what he should put on "mine pizza".
The new student leaders for Semester 2 were blessed at Eucharist on Thursday and received their badges.  Jamie is so proud of himself.  Then the kids and parents were invited to a celebratory morning tea ... which I was given time out of class to go to - awesome.  All the leaders are presented with a special candle to remind them how they are to be the guiding light for other primary students.  Jamie's candle it sitting up on the shelf above his bed, a very special memento.
We have finished the first week of school for Term 3.  Due to some major dramas last term, things aren't all pleasant for me at the moment, but I am finding ways to deal with the unpleasantness and try to laugh it off.  We have a new principal now who seems amazingly awesome so far.  He began his time at BCGS by inviting all staff to make a time to have a one on one meeting with him just for an informal chat.  What a delightful idea!  I met with him yesterday and had a lovely talk about me and the boys (and the drama).  He has said that the things that are most important to him are 1.  Family and 2. Pastoral care and the relationships between staff members.  He is definitely my kind of principal!!
Enjoy.
